THE DUNBLANE TAPES

On the 13th March 1996, sixteen children and one teacher were killed when a gunman opened fire in Dunblane Primary School, Scotland. Not long afterwards, one bereaved parent, John Crozier, picked up a camera and started filming. He wanted to document from the inside, the story of the most successful grassroots campaigns in British history. Thirty years later, these tapes have been uncovered for the first time.

After the shooting, three mothers - outraged by the fact that the gunman legally carried four handguns and over one thousand rounds of ammunition - launched a nationwide campaign to lobby the government to ban the private use of handguns in Britain. Bereaved parents in Dunblane joined the campaign and over the course of a year, fought an epic battle against a determined and resourceful gun lobby to bring in stricter gun legislation.

The Dunblane Tapes tells the story of this journey from the inside with intimate never-seen-before footage. The film reveals the unwavering courage and resolve that parents and campaigners showed in their fight to bring in legislative reform in the shadow of terrible tragedy. Their story demonstrates that, even in the worst of circumstances, change is possible.
